We are seeking to recruit a skilled and passionate Biomedical Engineer to support AdaraNewborn partner facilities by ensuring the effective installation, maintenance, and safe use of critical neonatal and maternal health equipment.
Location: Based at Kiwoko Hospital, Nakaseke District, Uganda
Employment status: 1 year contract – 3 days per week (0.6 FTE)
Reports to: Deputy Director of Maternal Newborn Child Health
About the Role
The Biomedical Engineer is responsible for ensuring proper installation, maintenance and functionality of medical equipment supplied by Adara to health facilities. Biomedical Engineer will play a pivotal role in strengthening the capacity of Adara Newborn health facilities to effectively manage and sustain critical neonatal and maternal care equipment. This position is focused on building facility-level expertise through hands-on training, mentorship, and continuous professional development for biomedical technicians, clinicians, and equipment users. By developing practical tools, delivering structured training programs, and fostering a culture of preventive maintenance and proper equipment utilization, the Biomedical Engineer will ensure that life-saving technologies are used safely, efficiently, and sustainably to improve outcomes for mothers and babies.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in medical equipment installation and maintenance.
- Strong technical knowledge of biomedical equipment used in neonatal and maternal care settings. Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and maintaining biomedical devices.
- Familiarity with Uganda’s healthcare regulations and safety standards.
- Excellent communication and training skills for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work under pressure in clinical settings.
