Every day at Adara we are touched by stories of hope across the globe and grateful for the generosity of the people and organisations who help make our work possible.
Stories like that of 18 year old Louise*
Louise was just seven years old when she tragically lost both her parents to HIV/AIDS. This small girl’s world was turned upside down, as in a few short weeks she said goodbye to her parents forever and left her home with her younger sister to live with her grandmother. Shortly after, Louise and her sister were both diagnosed with HIV.
Thankfully, the girls’ grandmother lived near Kiwoko Hospital in rural Uganda, and they were able to access the excellent HIV clinic at the hospital. Kiwoko provides services to a catchment area of 800,000 people, and is one of the few hospital’s offering specialist child and adolescent HIV clinics in the country. With the support of the counsellors at the hospital, the girls grew up happy and strong.
Although she worked hard to keep the girls healthy, Louise’s grandmother struggled to afford to send both of them to school. When Kiwoko realised that Louise was no longer receiving an education, the hospital was able to help her out thanks to an Adara education fund set up to support children orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS to access education.
With this support, Louise is now pursuing her passion of hairdressing at a tertiary college, with the aim of one day owning her own salon.
This is just one of thousands of stories of hope, made possible by the power of partnership. At Adara, we believe in the power of forging relationships with values-driven companies to help create lasting social change within our communities. That’s why we are thrilled to announce a $150,000 donation from AXIS Capital, a Bermuda-based global provider of specialty lines insurance and treaty reinsurance, to help Adara reach people in need across the globe over the next three years.
AXIS has generously committed to support Adara’s vital work with women and children in the developing world, and is eager to get involved.
“We are honoured to support Adara, an organisation that is making a tangible impact in helping to improve the lives of people who live in poverty,” said Karen Gonsalves, Vice President, Financial Controls and Analysis, at AXIS. “As a company that is deeply committed to giving back and enacting positive change, we’re heartened to know that 100% of the financial contribution we provide to Adara is going directly to supporting programmes on the ground.”
We at Adara are honoured to have AXIS’ support. We look forward to all the great work that we will be able to achieve together over the next three years.
