Our Volunteers

We are very fortunate to be approached by people all over the world who want to help Adara. Our Development Philosophy is that we always try to find a local person on site to do a job, before we take any foreign volunteers. As a result, we actually rarely take volunteers to our country sites, other than volunteers that have specialist skills that can't be found locally. We do take volunteers interested in supporting our Sydney and USA-based offices.

To date, we have received amazing volunteer assistance. Most of the few volunteers we do take in-country are doctors and nurses who spend time in Uganda training staff at Kiwoko Hospital. For the past 11 years, we have also had volunteers in Seattle who collect, sort and pack Uganda-bound medical equipment and supplies at the annual Packathon in the USA. Adara volunteers run fundraising events to support us, help with administrative tasks and make videos for us, among many other tasks! Thank you so much to all of you who believe in the Adara dream.

  • Adara has established key relationships with hospitals and medical volunteers to support our healthcare activities in Uganda. These volunteers build capacity in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and the maternity health care department at Kiwoko Hospital.

Adara Clinical Practice Manager coordinates all communication and visits of medical volunteers to Kiwoko Hospital. She ensures that work done with Kiwoko staff is focussed specifically on the wants and needs of the community and the hospital.
