Message by Audette Exel, Founder of the ISIS Group
One of the many wonderful things about the ISIS journey for me has been the chance to meet and connect with some remarkable people worldwide, many of whom become part of the extended ISIS Family. This year the ISIS team had the immense good fortune of meeting a remarkable photojournalist, Jonathan Torgovnik. We first met in early March in Nepal. Jonathan was part of a press team working on an article on ISIS, which is soon to be published in Bloomberg Markets magazine. He has spent his life telling the untold stories of people in need, from one end of the world to the other. As well as his career in photojournalism, some years ago he established his own NGO, Foundation Rwanda, to support mothers and children born of rape in the Rwandan genocide. His connection with ISIS and our work was immediate, and after a couple of long days, late nights, and some Nepali hospitality, the friendship was set. From the colourful and vibrant streets of Kathmandu, we made a plan to meet again in Uganda, to show Jonathan our work on that side of the world. In May, I spent a wonderful few days with him at our Uganda project site. He very generously offered to document our work In Uganda through his lens, as a gift to ISIS. His pictures capture beautifully the heart of our work, our team, and the heroes of Kiwoko Hospital, whom we are so privileged to work with. They say it better than we can. We hope you love them as much as we do.
