Adara Partners is a Certified BCorporation: What it means and why it matters

By Rachael McVean, Corporate Advisory Director, Adara Partners

I first had the opportunity to work with the Adara Group 10 years ago, when the Adara businesses were still based in Bermuda. I was working at PwC at the time and was looking for something different to be a part of – a way to use my skills for something bigger. When the opportunity arose to be seconded to Adara, I leapt at the opportunity. It was the first example of a corporate advisory business set up for the sole purpose of supporting people in poverty that I had heard of. I loved working alongside the team, and even had an opportunity to travel to Nepal to see firsthand the impact of our work in the corporate advisory business was having on people’s lives.

10 years later, I am really proud to be working in Adara’s newest business, Adara Partners, to open up opportunities for others in the financial services sector to use their mastery for purpose.

Today, we are excited to announce Adara Partners is joining Adara’s other business, Adara Advisors, as a Certified B Corporation®. This label means a lot to us because it recognises our place in the movement of people using business as a force for good. By gaining this certification we join the global community of over 2,000 BCorps competing not to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world. It’s about harnessing the power of business to address social problems. Basically, this label is like a Fair Trade certification – except for businesses, rather than just a bag of coffee.

We are incredibly proud that Adara Partners has been recognised as an organisation with social purpose embedded into its DNA. On a basic level, Adara Partners is a corporate advisory firm, providing senior advice to major Australian companies and governments. These services are provided via a unique Panel Member structure, which comprises some of the most highly regarded advisors in the Australian financial services industry. The most exciting part of this – these Panel Members work alongside Adara on a pro bono basis, allowing 100% of the profits from Adara Partners to go directly to Adara Development. Adara Development then put these funds towards amazing projects across the globe, to benefit women and children.

This B Corp assessment provides us with a framework against which we can measure our practices and values. It means that our governance, transparency and environmental impact have been judged to have been of the highest standard. It also means that we voluntarily hold ourselves to a higher level of accountability in all these areas.

For us, it’s far more than just a label. It is part of who we are and what we do. It is embedded in our organisation. And we are proud to be part of this community.
