Joseph Okiria

Joseph is Adara’s Biomedical Engineer in Uganda. In this role he supports AdaraNewborn partner facilities by ensuring the effective installation, maintenance, and safe use of critical neonatal and maternal health equipment.

Joseph has over six years of hands-on experience supporting medical equipment in clinical settings, including installation, preventive maintenance, repair, calibration, and structured user training.

He has worked extensively in resource-limited health facilities, where equipment reliability directly impacts patient care. Through frontline work with life-critical technologies such as oxygen concentrators infant incubators, Radiant warmers, CPAPs etc, he has developed a strong understanding of system-level challenges, including maintenance planning, user capacity, and workflow integration.

In his previous role at Nurture Africa, he implemented the Gould Family Foundation (GFF) structured biomedical engineering program, supporting four government health facilities in addition to Nurture Africa. His work focused on improving equipment functionality, strengthening maintenance systems, and building the capacity of healthcare workers through targeted user training.

His experience aligns with maternal and child health priorities by ensuring the availability and performance of essential equipment, contributing to improved clinical outcomes.

He is motivated to combine practical biomedical engineering with innovation and systems thinking to develop sustainable solutions that strengthen healthcare delivery.
