David was Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), Australia’s largest retail bank, from November 2018 to December 2023. As Deputy CEO, David oversaw business divestments, facilitated mergers and acquisitions, and improved handling of customer complaints. Prior to this role, David was Group General Counsel, Group Executive Human Resources, Group Executive Corporate Affairs and Chief Risk Officer at CBA. During his 15 years at CBA, he also led the bank through the Hayne royal commission into the financial services sector.
David’s roles prior to joining CBA include General Counsel at AMP and a Partner at Allens Arthur Robinson.
David is currently a Director of CBA subsidiary, PT Bank Commonwealth. He is also a Director of CBA’s New Zealand banking and funds management businesses, ASB.
